So you check on your mail and gasp when you see the insurance bill that awaits you. How could it cost this much to insure your child?

Young persons car insurance can cost a ton, but insurance providers do not see anything wrong with this. After all, there are many reasons insuring teens is a high-risk activity. For one, teenagers have under-developed, undeveloped, or even barely existent driving skills. For another, teens are somewhat wanting in judgment, more so in life and death situations that require speedy decision-making. Thirdly, teenagers often have slower reflexes than adult drivers. They are also known to drive even while intoxicated. Some even try to race the other drivers they come close to!

Statistically, few young drivers drive responsibly and this is precisely why young persons car insurance end up more expensive than most policies. There is a way around this, however. If your teenager has passed driver’s ed or has good grades, you can point out to your provider that you have a responsible young adult on your hands rather than a reckless driver. And, the more trustworthy your teenager seems, the lower the cost of the policy you can get him or her.
